According to research and the evaluation of the impact on our workplaces with respect to Mental Health over the years, within this document:
- The mental health problems and illnesses of working adults in Canada cost employers more than $6 billion in lost productivity from absenteeism, presenteeism and turnover in 2011.47% of working Canadians agree that their work is the most stressful part of their day.
- 82% of employees with mental health issues indicate it impacts their work,17 while only 53% of those with physical health issues say it impacts their work.
- Numerous studies show that employees are more creative and able to achieve higher levels of job performance when they are in mentally healthy work environments.
- 40% of Canadians report that their mental health has disrupted their lives.
If we attempt to ignore our employees and the impact of Mental Health and Addictions in our workplace, we miss the opportunity to create an employee-focused culture of safety and health to ensure each employee is able to reach their full potential.
